New Year Update but not any happier at this point!!
I wish I could be more upbeat about the new year but with a 48 degree temperature at 5 pm on January 4th it’s rather difficult. And, not to mention the forecast, which I won’t mention!!
Unfortunately Suicide 6 had to postpone the first J3 MVC extravaganza this morning because of the lack of open ski terrain but they are optimistic in getting it in next weekend, either Sunday or Monday. Your hard work in getting the running orders to me will not have been in vain if Mother Nature will be more cooperative after the weekend.
Please use Tom Mason’s spreadsheet and fill it out completely for the Jones Series race at Ascutney next weekend as well. They are cautiously optimistic that if they can’t use the Screamin Eagle trail they will be able to move it to another trail for the MLK Monday event. Whether it remains a GS will be another question and hopefully a decision will be made the middle of next week.
Since the Jones and the Ross athletes don’t have to carry their USSA/VARA cards with them to races this season it is the responsibility of the Club coach(es) verifying their respective memberships. MVC place points can not be awarded to non-VARA members. More importantly, all racers must have USSA membership or they are ineligible to race.
This season, as in the past, we will be having a few “non appropriate” age skiers participating at all levels of Council racing. Why do we do that you might wonder? It has been the MVC’s goal over the years to keep youngsters, regardless of age and ability active in the sport of ski racing. For various reasons our goal has been realized and several of the youngsters have moved on and prospered with the sport. It often takes a little more effort for the race organizer but it’s little to ask for the benefit of the youngster.
Stay tuned for (hopefully) more enthusiastic updates!!
