Gold Medalist Ted Ligety on his NORDICA DOBERMANNS

There was an abundance of great racing action last weekend that included NORDICA Ross Series events at both Quechee and Okemo on Saturday.  It looked like a pair of J5’s stole the show at Quechee, Wyatt  Queirolo from Killington and Caroline  Corbally from Quechee took gold medals home. Over at Okemo it was  J5, Will  Mccoy taking top honors, taking advantage of the home hill for the gold and fellow team mate Amelia  Kaplan J6, taking the gold for the girls.

As a side note please refer to the following information for the final few Ross races:

2.        Ross entries must be made to the host site by Wednesday at 5 pm with the Name, Class, Club, and USSA number in an Excel spreadsheet.

3.        All NORDICA Ross Series coaches that serve on the jury or set a course must be USSA professional coaches or officials. All other Ross Series coaches must be on the Club coach’s roster which will be sent to the host site prior to the event to receive a comp ticket for the day.

All Ross Series coaches must be members of VARA

Sunday’s race action was at the Middlebury Snow Bowl for the annual Jones NORDICA GS and it was a pair of Okemo racers taking the gold medals, Sarah Burns and Tanner Mottau. Sarah’s OMS team mates Lexi Kaplan and Brie Whalen were 2nd and 3rd and Suicide 6’s Elle Gilbert was 4th. Suicide 6’s Chris McKenna took silver medal honors for the boys and    OMS’s Connor Davis took home the bronze medal. Killington’s Kyle Burcin,  not only took 4th place but took home the J5 gold medal for the boys. Okemo’s Hana Saydeck was the J5 girl gold medalist, as well as turning in the 7th fastest girl time of the day. Okemo retained the Beanpot for another week.

The MVC J3’s were training the past week preparing for the big finale at Killington this coming Sunday where the MVC J3 Team will be named after the race. Also,

NORDICA will be presenting the MVC champions with a pair of next season’s race skis and other prizes for the MVC team members. 30 boys and 29 girls will be selected to represent the MVC at the VARA Championships the following weekend, based upon the best 7 runs of the season. The Killington Ski Club will be offering light refreshments after the race while the tabulations are being worked out. For those MVC J3’s that aren’t named to the Team a VARA Shootout will take place on Tuesday at Suicide 6 where an additional 9 boys and 6 girls will get a chance to race the the J3 States.

NORDICA Jones Series action will shift to Okemo for some slalom action on Sunday.

The variable New England weather could play a factor in this weekend’s racing action so stay tuned for updates. Saturday night’s temperatures are forecasted at -10 - -20 so decisions will be made on Friday regarding this weekend’s action. The safety of the athletes and course workers will be high on the priority list in the decision making process.
